The Web Monitoring System (WMS) features 70+ preconfigured websites among four languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, and Russian. The WMS refreshes daily with new translated content.
Experts at Raytheon BBN Technologies updated and expanded the MMS to provide provides access to Social Media Monitoring for Twitter and Facebook for a “triangulation” of sources used in Media Analysis, Intelligence, and Language Learning. The WMS‘s automatic analysis of content simplifies identification, translation and retrieval from overwhelming volumes of continuously-accumulating media.
MMS users interact with the system from any PC or laptop via common high-speed IP network. The only required software is Windows Internet Explorer and Media Player 9.
Like the BMS, the WMS displays its key components: the search bar, the time frame-language-media source designation, and labels of the preconfigured websites in multiple languages (Figure 1).
This system is comparable to a JStor or Lexus Nexus database. As users search by keyword and time frame, the WMS searches its continually accruing content and reveals the results (Figure 2).
In selecting the item of interest, the user is able to view authentic content–including Twitter, in its native script (Figure 3) and the English translation (Figure 4). It is here that users can collect multiple citations from publications that allow researchers and scholars the ability to search with authentic word strings from the authentic text across languages and regions.
The content can be analyzed by trends, topics, and geography then saved and exported to external applications (Figure 5).
